The pounds are always full, over 15,000 cats are killed in NSW pounds alone each year*. DoggieRescue has very limited resources,
which means we can only help save some each week of the abandoned cats and kittens sitting on death row in Sydney's pounds.
“Do small things with great love” Mother Theresa
If we can find one new foster family and home, then we can save one more kitty from the pounds.
Every kitty fostered is one life saved. Can you help us by giving a home to a cat or kittens?
Not everyone is in a position to adopt a kitty, which is why DoggieRescue runs a foster program making it easy for caring
cat lovers to make an immediate difference.
When we save a kitty from the pound, it first spends time with our vets to ensure they are healthy etc. We do not advertise
these kitties until they are available for adoption, but there are always several in the “pipeline”. Alternatively there
may be a cat or young kitten which has spent a while at a kind vet’s but just hasn’t yet had that magical moment of finding
its new forever family to adopt it – these kitties are likely to benefit greatly returning to a normal home environment.

ABOUT FOSTER CARING
As a foster parent you commit to care for the cat/kittens in a loving and safe environment until a permanent home is found.
Fostering duration can vary from a few days to some months.
Even though foster care is temporary, it is a commitment, and you will need to:
- Have suitable experience with the type/needs of the cats and kittens and be prepared to housetrain if required (we will
provide advice on how to do this) – all our kitties know how to use a kitty-litter tray. Kittens will only be fostered with
experienced cat foster carers.
- Contact your Foster Coordinator on a fortnightly basis (phone or email)*
- To assist with the possible adoption of the cat/kittens by meeting with potential owners at either your place or theirs
and providing relevant information on the animal, its temperament and needs, with a “meet and greet” with the kitty for serious
adopters.
- Pay $200 deposit (refundable when the cat/kittens are adopted or continuous if you remain fostering)
- Advise us of any health issues or injuries and get approval from DoggieRescue prior to incurring any veterinary costs
- Be prepared to keep the cat/kittens until it finds a home
- Your Cat Foster Coordinator will be based as close to you geographically as possible and is an experienced cat owner/attendant
able to offer or seek advice on any training/behavioural issues. This person will also field all initial enquiries about
the cat/kittens.
